The following extraction of the cemeteries of Polk County Nebraska is from the "Polk County Heritage" pp 245 to 322 published by the Osceola Centennial Committee, Bernie Gissler, Chairman, Osceola Nebraska 68651 in 1975
Approval to submit to the Nebraska Archives was granted by Mrs. Bernie Gissler in memory of her husband and other committee members.
From the front of the book:
ACKNOWLEDGMENT A thank you to the people who contribute their family history. They realize the importance of preserving a different facet of our history - the family life.
A 'tip of the hat' to the Osceola Lions for their work in collecting cemetery records, and to some of the cemetery boards.
Typists: Mrs. Linda Anderson, Mrs. Jane Roberts, Mrs. Ruth Lux, Mrs. Lana Flodman, and Mrs. Jackie Johansen.
A thanks to Roxanne and Evelyn Gissler for their "jack-of-all-trades" role; recording names and dates from headstones in the cemeteries under adverse conditions (and drippy noses from walking in cold and windy weather last winter), sorting and alphabetizing names, typing, and proof reading.
Thanks to all, until you are better paid!
Bernie Gissler
Guidelines: The Surname Index to Location lists alphabetically all surnames listed in the Polk Co. cemeteries. Each surname entry includes a soundex and the name of the cemetery where the surname can be found. This index can be searched (using your browsers Find) by soundex or surname. If you do not know the soundex, click on Calculate a Soundex. |
The archive files are organized by cemetery. To access a particular surname, find the location associated with the surname in the surname index. Then find and click on that cemetery in the location column of the table of contents. |
Each archive file is ordered alphabetically. The file can be searched by Surname or Surname","Given name. Most browsers do not provide for wild cards in the search parameter. |
Some things to watch out for: The cemeteries were scanned using OmniPage Pro character recognition software. While they were carefully edited there may still be some scan/recognition errors. In rare cases the cemetery list may be slightly out of alphabetical order. |
