NigeriaPart of the World GenWeb ProjectHello! I'm Charlotte Meyer and I am the temporary hostess for the Nigeria page of the World GenWeb Project. This page is up for adoption to someone with a better grasp of Nigerian genealogical research. But in the meantime, I wanted to get the ball rolling here in Africa. If you are interested in adopting the Nigeria web site for the World GenWeb Project, contact me. About the World GenWeb ProjectIn March and April 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. In June 1966, as the Kentucky Project was coming to completion, the USGenWeb project was organized. Volunteers are being found who are willing to coordinate the collection of county pages for each state page. Also in June 1996, just 2 weeks or so after the beginning of The US GenWeb project, the World GenWeb project was begun. (Volunteers are still needed for many of the countries. If you are interested in hosting a country, please contact Dale Schneider.) Information courtesy of Rebecca Chaky. Thanks! Now, let's get down to the good stuff. We want to link here with web sites that contain genealogical information relating to Nigeria. This includes places where we can write for records, or even records that are already on line. Personal web pages that contain Nigerian family trees are welcome and we encourage people to also submit surnames that they are researching and queries about ancestors they are looking for.
